Ms. Mbarire, who was contesting on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket garnered 108, 610 votes.
The results released Saturday morning show that her main rival, Lenny Kivuti of the Development Empowerment Party (DEP) got 105,046 votes.
In her acceptance speech shortly after being awarded the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) clearance certificate, Ms. Mbarire termed the win as humbling.
“I want to thank God for giving us the win today. I feel humbled. I also thank our security agencies for ensuring there’s peace in the county all through the election process,” she said.
Others in the race were Jubilee’s Emilio Kathuri and Njagi Kumantha of the Democratic Party.
Mbarire was a Nominated MP and now joins other women who have been so far elected county bosses. They include; Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay, Kirinyaga’s Anne Waiguru, Susan Kihika of Nakuru and Kawira Mwangaza of Meru County.
