Alvin Linus Chivondo ,21,is the latest to hit the headlines on Wednesday after he was charged for stealing 2litres of cooking oil , sugar and 5kgs of rice in Naivas supermarket situated along Moi Avenue .
Chivondo was charged with shoplifting goods worth ksh3,165 .
In court Chivondo ,pleaded guilty and was fined Ksh 100,000 or serve a one year jail sentence .
However , Azimio One Kenya frag bearer, Raila Odinga urged the court to release Chivondo Unconditionally .
Raila in a tweet termed the ruling as unfair since criminals are now getting a reprieve to campaign freely , while petty offenders are being jailed .
“Let Alvin Linus Chivondo be released unconditionally!. Criminals are now getting a reprieve to campaign freely, while petty offenders are being jailed. Let the courts get their priorities right, for once, you can’t jail a man for trying to feed his family.” Raila stated .
On the same , former LSK president Nelson Havi reprimanded Raila’s sentiments as unsound , reasoning that the ruling was constitutional and lawful.
“It would have been legally prudent and helpful for Raila Odinga to have paid the fine of Kshs 100,000.00 on behalf of and settled the needy young man in a paying job instead of unjustly castigating the Magistrate who issued a lawful sentence or belittling the judicial process.” Nelson Havi through his twitter account .
