The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani has said Kenya’s economy has grown by 155 percent since the year 2013 when Uhuru took governance .
Reading the 2022/2023 budget which also President Uhuru’s last budget , Yatani stated the growth to increased macro-economic activities .
“Looking back since 2013 when the current governance took reign of power , Kenya has achieved monumental milestones , especially at the macro-economic level, “Yatani said.
“For instance , the economy has grown by 155 per cent from the value pf Ksh 5.3 trillion in 2013 to ksh13.5 trillion in 2022 , ” Yatani told the parliament .
Yatani also said the economy has grown strongly with an average of 4.6 per cent since 2013.
CS Yatani also said 5.2 million jobs have been created in both formal and informal sectors in Jubilee’s second term.
Yatani also added the country per capita has grown from ksh127,000 in 2013 to Ksh244,000 in 2021 , translating to an increase of 92.1 percent .
“Implementation of socio-economic policies and structural reforms have seen Kenya graduate from a low income to a middle -income country with an estimated per capita income of Ksh 244,000 in 2021, a significant leap of 92.1 per cent from ksh 127,000 in 2013 , ” Yatani said.
Yatani outlined a number of achieves of President Uhuru’s government including the completing of Nairobi to Naivasha standard gauge railway line , construction of 4,795kilometres of new roads , maintenance of 110,625 kilometer roads , completion of second container terminal at the port of Mombasa , and completion of Lamu and Kisumu ports .
He also added primary schools have increased from 26,549 to 32,437 while secondary schools from 7,174 to 10,413 between 2012 and 2020.
