Karen Lucas has condemned Nairobi governor Anne Kananu over her decision to shut down Alchemist bar.
Kananu suspended the trading license of the Alchemist bar in Westlands over allegations of racial discrimination against patrons and noise pollution.
The Nairobi governor made the decision after a video that went viral showed the bar discriminating against the blacks.
“I have directed county executive committee member for environment to institute a multiagency task force and a comprehensive report of the same to be made in the next five days,” Kananu said.
The Westlands bar issued an apology on Monday May 3, 2022, and said that the management had reached out to the individuals who posted the video on social media to get more information on the incident.
“To anyone that has felt aggrieved, we sincerely apologise and we look forward to sitting down together and addressing these issues head-on,” Alchemist said in part.
Karen Lucas has since come out to condemn the Nairobi county government for shutting Alchemist.
She said jobs have been lost because of ‘keyboard bullies’ who claimed that Alchemist was practicing racial segregation.
“The number of jobs lost, hungry home and loss @alchemist254 has had to suffer at the hands of keyboard bullies is just dispeakable! You have no idea how powerful your phones are till you’re responsible for all the mouths that go hungry from your actions. Yes we call all be activists but use your power wisely. Look what you’ve done. Shame shame on you!!!#isupportthealchemist,” Karen Lucas wrote.
