Deputy President William Ruto has apologised to Kenyans over Meru Senator Mithika Linturi’s madoadoa remark that he made in Eldoret political rally on Saturday.
Ruto, who addressed a political rally in Bomet County on Monday, said Linturi’s choice of words was regrettable.
“As UDA (United Democratic Alliance), we do not subscribe to any divisive talk. We do not accept talks that profile certain individuals or certain tribes because we are a national party that brings all the communities of Kenya together,” he said.
The DP commended the Senator for taking a bold step and apologise to Kenyans over his perceived hateful remarks.
“Senator Linturi made a statement which he regrets. A statement that had inappropriate language and he has withdrawn it and unconditionally apologised to the people of Kenya,” he added.
He said his UDA party does not subscribe to divisive politics and he is committed to ensuring that its members uphold decorum at all time.
“I want to tell members of my team that all of us must mind our language.
“We must be careful about what we say so that we can unite this country because that is what the Hustler Nation believes in,” he stated
The DP, however, faulted the State agencies for applying ‘selective’ justice.
“We do want to see a situation where people are subjected to different sets of laws.
“We want every inciter in Kenya, whether they belong to UDA or the other side, to be treated equally so that we can secure our nation,” he said.
Senator Linturi was arrested in Eldoret on Sunday and taken to DCI headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.
He is still under police custody awaiting a court appearance.
