The Russian government has refuted claims made by State House spokesperson Kanze Dena that the rising cost of living in the country has been caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In a radio interview, Kanze defended the government on the biting economic times in the country noting that it is a situation being experienced all over the world.
According to her, the situation has been caused by various factors including the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The rising cost of living is not exclusive to Kenya; it is a global phenomenon fueled by numerous external factors, among them the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war which has led to a rise in the global price of petroleum, which is a key factor of production,” Kanze said.
Russia through its embassy in Kenya has, however, refuted the claims noting that the situation has been occasioned by the various sanctions imposed by the US and other European countries on Russia.
“To our Kenyan friends and partners that the real cause of the increase in prices in Africa is not Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, but the illegal unilateral “sanctions” imposed by the US, EU and their followers on Russia,” the embassy said in a tweet.
