‘We shall revisit” Security Officers at State House Finally Break Silence After President Ruto Closed Bars

State House

The closure of the bar at State House, the residence of top government officials in Nairobi, has disrupted the social routines of its residents.

However, it has also opened up opportunities for them to explore the vibrant bar scene in the city and discover new social avenues.

For years, the State House bar had been a convenient and exclusive destination for residents to socialize and enjoy a wide array of beverages.

President William Ruto’s decision to close the establishment left the residents in a parched predicament, as they now had to find alternative places to quench their thirst.

Some chose to visit nearby bars, even venturing into less desirable areas such as Sego, a slum near State House. Others opted to purchase their preferred drinks from supermarkets or host private parties in their homes.

“You know that the alcohol at State House was subsidized and affordable to us. The bar served more than 300 families, including a whole GSU camp, the drivers, the bosses, and the cooks,” a top security official at State House told The Standard, adding,

“Those who have money can easily organize parties in their house, and for some of us, like police officers who earn peanuts, we can meet at Sego.”

The closure of the State House bar presented challenges, particularly for those with limited incomes, such as police officers, who found the subsidized and affordable alcohol to be a significant benefit.

These individuals have been forced to spend more money at other bars and restaurants near State House, resulting in financial strain.

Nonetheless, the closure has also prompted residents to adapt and make the best of the situation. They have embraced the opportunity to explore the diverse bar scene in Nairobi, discovering new venues and experiencing the city’s vibrant nightlife.

As the residents navigate their new social avenues, they have found solace and camaraderie in the diverse venues and experiences that Nairobi offers.
