Gunshots Fired in Ruto Security Official’s Home

Police officers in Lang’ata are investigating a shooting incident that occurred inside the home of an officer attached to the presidential escort unit.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the incident unfolded when the officer took his family out for Easter celebrations along Southern Bypass.

Upon returning in the evening, the report indicated that a quarrel ensued between the officer and his 29-year-old wife.

The altercation escalated, resulting in the wife rushing to the bedroom and returning with a Jericho pistol. She cocked the gun and pointed it against herself, threatening to end her life in front of their children.

One of the children, a student at Lang’ata Barracks, pleaded with her mother to refrain from causing harm to herself and called for an amicable solution to the differences.

She slowly approached her mother and attempted to grab the pistol whereby a scuffle ensued. Amid the melee, one round of ammunition was discharged, hitting the mother on the upper side of the chest and exiting from the back and the child sustained injuries on her right hand.

Following the incident, the two were rushed to a local hospital in Nairobi.

Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC),  Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO), Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and Officer Commanding Police Post (OCPP) visited the scene and documented the events.

The Jericho pistol loaded with fourteen rounds of ammunition, one in the chamber and thirteen in the magazine, and one spent cartridge of 9mm were among the items recovered at the scene. A bullet head was also recovered three meters away from the main door and all were kept as exhibits.

The team also visited the hospital and found that the victims were in fair condition.

Police officers launched investigations to determine the cause of the argument that led to the altercation.
