Passengers Trapped After Wajir Bus Is Swept by Floods Along Garissa-Mwingi Road

51 passengers were trapped on Tuesday, April 9, after the bus they were travelling in was swept by floods along the Garissa- Mwingi road.

51 passengers were trapped on Tuesday, April 9, after the bus they were travelling in was swept by floods along the Garissa- Mwingi road.



According to reports, the bus was travelling from Wajir to Nairobi, when it got trapped around the Tula area at 2:00 in the morning.

Efforts to rescue the passengers are still underway. The occupants of the bus spent the morning submerged in the water.

It is yet to be confirmed the state of those trapped by the time this report was published.

The incident follows a notice from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), informing the public of the closure of a section of the Nairobi-Garissa road. 



The National Disaster Operation Centre on Tuesday issued a directive informing residents surrounding the Seven Forks Dam over spillage concerns following heavy rains experienced in the country.

According to the letter sent to several County Commissioners, residents living in low areas of Garissa, Lamu and Tana River counties were advised to vacate to higher grounds.
