More than 7,000 Russian solders have been killed since the start of the invasion, Ukraine’s presidential adviser has said.

Earlier today, that figure was reported by Ukraine as sitting at around 6,000. 

The adviser added that hundreds of Russian soldiers, including senior officers, have also been taken as prisoners.

A Russian army commander was taken to Belarus after being severely wounded, adviser Oleksiy Arestovich said in a televised briefing.

It should be noted that Russia has reported a very different figure for the number of its soldiers that have been killed.

In the latest report, the country’s defense ministry said 498 of its solders had died in the offensive.

Meanwhile, Ukraine says 2,000 civilians have died so far.
