A court in Nairobi has cleared controversial televangelist, Bishop Gilbert Deya, of child trafficking following prosection’s failure to build a strong case.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Robison Ondieki ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the case after lacking substantial evidence to incriminate Deya.

Deya was charged with five counts of stealing children below 14 years, between 2002 and 2004, at Mountain View estate in Nairobi.

Bishop Gilbert Deya and his supporters convened outside the Milimani Court premises, chanting songs and ululations over the joyous news.

While addressing the media after his acquittal, Deya stated that he had forgiven his detractors of the wrongdoings despite the case tainting his name for years.

He added that he would resume his ministry in the United Kingdom.

“I have been in court for seven years. In the UK, I was having cases in 2004 and was already put in a special institution and under curfew,” he stated.

“But I’m grateful that the case has ended and my ministry in Kenya can continue. In the UK, trust me you will see me very soon. Thank you to my supporters also. Gilbert Deya is a free man.”

Several supporters also narrated to the media how they stood with the pastor due to the miracles he had performed in his tenure.

“It has been a day of freedom, the case is over. I’m happy that the judge trumped all the charges levied against the bishop. Justice has been done,” one of Deya’s supporters intimated.
