Top Kenya Power managers arrested over last week’s countrywide blackout

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that they have arrested ten top managers from Kenya Power for allegedly having a hand in a power blackout that engulfed the country last week.

“We have ten senior Kenya Power officials in custody both from management and technical departments. They took part in coordinated sabotage to bring down the entire power infrastructure,” Kinoti told Capital FM.

Kinoti revealed that during their investigations, they discovered that the basement of the Angle Towers of the company’s High Voltage Power lines was vandalized.

He explained that since the Angel Towers has been vandalised, they could not support the overwhelming weight of the conductors and the towers themselves.

He further said that DCI officers also found out that cross beams were unbolted and removed, a move that led to the power outage.

“The team also established that the Angle towers caved in, the other towers failed to sustain the weight and also caved in,” Kinoti said.
